WINNERS

The best new hairdresser talent comes from Korea

Barcelona, 28 October 2007. The best impression at the fifth International Trend Vision Award, run by Wella Professionals, was left by Young sub Kim from the Juno Hair salon in Seoul. The members of the gold winning team set themselves apart among 53 teams. Silver was awarded to Iryna Fraiuk from salon S&A group in Ukraine and the Thai team with Wuthichai Krajaipoch from the Woo…K…Hair Salon received the bronze award.
As a reward Wella Professionals invites them to style hair for a young fashion designer at the Milan Fashion Week in February 2008 to show off their creativity, technical experience and trend knowledge. Additionally, the gold winner receives a comprehensive PR package.

Jury awarded gold for outstanding cut & colour technique

This year’s jury – consistent of international top stylists, a make-up artist as well as the audience – highlighted in their speech Young sub Kims extraordinary performance, especially his cut and colour techniques. “The jury was thrilled with the colour selection – a range from amber orange to butternut scotch blonde – which is hard to achieve in such dark hair. The triangle in the front was a surprising contrast colour effect. And the shine of the hair was just fabulous,” explains Teri Dougherty, Wella Professionals top stylist and jury speaker.

During the competition the jury had examined the work of all teams regarding the ability of the hairdresser to interpret new trends and create a total look in innovative styling including make-up, clothing and accessories. At the end the 27-year old Young sub Kim delivered an outstanding performance and won the International Trend Vision Award 2007 with his interpretation of the trend Pop Couture.

The winning look

Young sub Kim chose Pop Couture, inspired, among other things, by the 1960s and Andy Warhol. According to him, he wanted to recreate the fashion icon of the 60s: Twiggy. Particularly Young sub Kim is fascinated with the bold colours and the extreme cutting lines of this time. His winning hairstyle is interplay between two lengths: long vs. short.

The shorter part is cut smoothly to keep the natural movement of the hair but at the same time marks a clear distinction between the two sections. For his colour expression Kim used the variety of Koleston Perfect: Predominant colours are different shades of blonde, amber and orange with an eye-catching triangle in the front. This geometric form finds its counterpart in the make-up - below the model’s right eye shines an orange triangle as well.

The gold winner, a cutting specialist, had taken part twice before in the Trend Vision Award in Korea, but did not win the national decider. In 2007 he came in first place and could directly repeat his victory in Barcelona. He now has a great career ahead of him: Young sub Kim will take part in various Wella Professionals fashion projects, proving his talents on the major hairdressing stages of the world and profiting from working with established top hairdressers.

In addition, Wella Professionals and a beauty title in his home country agreed upon a cooperation to promote the young talent.
