Sarah Silver

Sarah's love of photography began as a child when she assisted her grandfather in his studio darkroom. From that time forward, a camera was never far from her hand. Studying both classical and modern dance from an equally young age, Sarah has always had an appreciation of movement.

After completing her first degree in Middle East studies from Vassar College, she found that her true calling was to combine both of her passions: photography and movement. She applied for graduate studies in photography at the School of Visual Arts in New York City. While finishing her Master's Degree in Photography, Sarah was chosen to shoot for Surface Magazine's Avant Guardian issue. This fashion shoot marked the true beginning of Sarah's professional career as a photographer. Using dancers as models in high fashion, Sarah's style gelled.

Next, Sarah shot her graduate thesis, two fashion stories, using the modern dance group Stephen Petronio Dance in clothing by Prada and Imitation of Christ. These photographs have since appeared in several magazines including PDN/PIX, Italian Vogue, Elle and Time Out NY.

Couture Allure: Couture Allure is all about the sophisticated woman so I gave her an overall feeling of elevation that's why we shot at such a low angle. When you look up at her you can tell she's quite expensive and self-assured.

Mineral Splendour: The Mineral Splendour woman is a bit of an enigma. She's of the earth but in a done kind of way. She's a very intelligent woman and she's at one with herself and nature that's why I had her always looking out of frame: she feels a bit spiritual that way.

Industrial Beauty: I always saw the turn of the century beauty as the Industrial Beauty the epoch when the steel and steam industry was taking over and connecting the world through railways and new innovation. Our woman is lit in a way that makes me think of early electric bulbs.

Wonderland: The woman of the wonderland is fancy free and light hearted. She is thoughtful and playful, full of vibrance and life. She's always looking into the light, searching out knowledge.
